General Information: There are typically 5 traffic ed sessions per year: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer A and Summer B. Each session has its own online-only application period. If your child does not make it into the session, you must reapply for any subsequent sessions. It may take several attempts to be accepted into a session as there are typically more applicants than there are spots. Placement is determined by date of birth. Check the Traffic Ed Program Information & Schedules link to the left of this page for dates.

Traffic Ed is not a requirement in Montana. Once a child is 16, the licensing process can be started at the Driver License Station. Go to for steps required to obtain a learner license without a traffic education program.
