A Wonderful Place to Grow

Whittier Parent Organization

What is WPO?

WPO is the Whittier Parent Organization

Who are members of WPO?

Every parent/guardian of a student at Whittier School.

What does WPO do?

  • Provide a means of communication between parents and teachers.
  • Provide ways for parents to be involved in their child’s education and school activities.
  • Form committees to tackle big projects, such as the Playground Renovation, Fundraising and Grant chasing.
  • Financially support school activities and projects. WPO pays for the art teacher and the choir program. We provide teachers with a yearly classroom stipend and a catered lunch, morning coffees and a gift during Teacher Appreciation Week. Last year, WPO provided snacks for the students during testing and paid for the annual reading incentive program. WPO also funds big projects. The most recent was completing the computer labs, which we accomplished in the spring of 2006. The next big project will be the Playground Renovation and Fitness Trail. At the present time, WPO has around $10,000 to put into this project.

WPO meetings?

Any parent/guardian is welcome to attend the WPO meetings. Our first meeting is held prior to Open House. Our second meeting is in January(be watching for the date and time) and our third meeting is in the spring. We will send home agendas before each meeting, and we hope to provide food and entertainment to make an evening of it. The focus of our meetings is to update parents on WPO finances and seek parent approval for future projects and expenditures. In addition, we would like to recruit volunteers for WPO sponsored activities. The Executive Committee, consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, will meet monthly with Principal Bauer and Jenny Tetrault, who is serving as this year’s teacher representative. If you have an issue you would like addressed by the Executive Committee, please contact Beth Hertsens at 582-8778 or Wendy Swendseid at 388-9469.
