A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A 6TH GRADER

We asked some of our 6th graders to describe a typical day.  This is what they tell us it’s like:

6:45 Mom or Dad comes in and attempts to wake me up.
7:00 I drag myself out of bed and into the shower.
7:15 - 7:30 I grab some breakfast, then catch the bus.
8:00 - 8:10 We arrive at school and I get ready for my first class.
8:20 - 8:50 Advisory/Access.  We learn about school activities, study skills, and spend time on thinking and reading activities.
8:53 - 9:41 Communication Arts. We’ve been learning about expository writing.
9:44 - 10:32 Spanish.  I love learning about other cultures!
10:35 - 11:23 Social Studies. We are starting a unit on Egypt.
11:26 - 12:14 Gym. We are playing volleyball now.
12:17 - 12:47 Lunch. Time to catch up with my friends.
12:50 - 1:38 Science. We are studying the human body.
1:41 - 2:29 Math. We are comparing fractions, decimals and percents.
2:32 - 3:20 Band/Choir/Orchestra. We are preparing for our concerts.
3:20 - 4:10 After School.  I take the bus home and get a snack.  I spend some time with the dog and relax a little.
4:10 - 5:30 I do activities during this time most days, otherwise I practice my flute.
5:30 - 7:00 Dinner time.  This is the one time of day that our whole family sits down together, at least most days.
7:00 - 8:00 Homework. I usually have less than one hour of homework a night.
8:00 - 9:30 Relax. I usually watch a little TV, read a book, or play on the ‘puter.
9:30 -10:00 Bedtime. I usually bring a book to bed and fall to sleep reading.
