PARENT ASSOCATION"Let us put our minds together and see what life we will make for our children." - Chief Joseph LPA MEETING NOTES OCTOBER 11, 2006 Introductions were made with 16 people in attendance. Volunteer Update: Britt Bodtker gave an update on volunteer opportunities which still need to be filled. Family Nights-Need chairperson, and anyone interested should contact Britt Library-Barb Oriet, Librarian, needs help shelving School yearbook-Need coordinator to work with photo studio. Fundraising: Sally Foster Update-Suzy Vanderbeek reported that to date there had been $21,000 in sales. The school wide assembly recognizing top sellers will be on October 31st. Proposals-Nina Jaeger reported there would be approximately $12,000 to fund proposals. Annual Fund-Nina Jaeger has drafted a letter to inform parents of the ability to donate money to a specific project or need which would be fully deductible through LPA. Discussion followed regarding how the annual fund should be structured and it was decided to give it a trial run this year following Nina’s recommendations. *Parents present at the meeting discussed the desire for teachers to ask for classroom needs in newsletters so they can help out with specific items. *Nina Jaeger is in the process of applying for a $10,000 grant from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). She will share the draft with anyone who is interested in reading the proposal. Budget Overview: Treasurer Chris Harmon discussed the budget and we have $7,000 of carryover money from last school year. A motion was made by Sue McGrath and seconded by Mary Kate Boling to approve the Fiscal Year 2006 actual. A pro vote followed and the motion passed. Principal’s Update: Randy reported that the District has purchased 2 personal safety issues video’s which will be available for parents to view as well as a 30 min. video which walks parents through how to discuss sensitive issues with their children. The school board voted to change the enrollment process so there will be no more camping out all night to get your child into kindergarten. It will now be a lottery format, but details are still being worked out. The Wetlands Festival was a huge success again this year! Thanks to everyone who made it possible. Randy discussed the six proposals he had received so far: 1. Scoring machine for paper 2. Paper cutters 3. Marquee for front of building 4. Box of recess games 5. Technology software upgrade($1,600) 6. North Fort Playground improvements Randy gave an update on grade 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade CRT results from the Spring of last year. The scores were not as strong as the school had hoped and expected. The District is assessing the situation and working to implement additional interventions for Math. In the wake of recent school violence Emergency Response ideas were discussed with more to follow at future meetings. The next LPA meeting will be on Wednesday, November 8th 6:30-8:00 p.m.(Time change due to important vote on proposals which make your wishes known as to how LPA is to distribute its funds to the school).
