Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, Creative Ticket School of Excellence Award for the 2004-2005 School Year.
• Hawthorne received the Governor's Award for the Arts 2005 for Service to the Arts. The staff received the award in a ceremony at the State Capitol in Helena.
In 2002 Hawthorne School was named one of the top five schools in the nation for exemplary arts integration programs by the Boyer Center in collaboration with the following organizations: The Association for Supervision and Instruction, The National Association of Elementary School Principals, and Teaching K-8 Magazine.
In 1998 Hawthorne School was listed as an exemplary school for arts integration by the Harvard Graduate School Project Zero.
In 1991 Hawthorne School was selected by the Montana Arts Council as a Model School for Montana for Arts Integration.
Senator Max Baucus and the Montana Arts Council staff have written about the exemplary role Hawthorne plays as Montana's Model School for the Arts. In a February 25, 1997 newspaper article, Mr. John Frohnmayer, former head of the National Endowment for the Arts, cited Hawthorne School as a excellent example of art education helping youngsters to learn.
• The Hawthorne students and staff were recognized by the Bozeman Beautification Committee for their efforts in creating a Children's Sculpture Garden on the school grounds.
Additionally, Hawthorne was selected for inclusion in directories prepared by the Montana Arts Council, the Iowa's Art Council, the Nebraska Art Council and Montana's Office of Public Instruction listing professional development opportunities for Montana schools. The staff is frequently asked to give workshops or seminars on their innovative program.
• In 2004 the Hawthorne Choir performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the Montana Dreams Choir, conducted by composer Eric Funk.
• In 2006 a group of students, Hawthorne's Kennedy Kids, performed on the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The Kennedy Kids were invited to perform after Hawthorne received the Creative Ticket Award for the 2004-2005 school year.
