The parents of Hawthorne students are a critical component in the arts program. Parents serve as advocates, active fund raisers, and enthusiastic audience members.
One year colorful paper cranes were folded and hung as a thank you each time a parent volunteered at school. As a result, the hallways were adorned with colorful flocks of cranes, each a testimony to the support and commitment of Hawthorne's parents.
An excellent example of the commitment can be seen in May of each year when the school hosts a Celebration of Children and the Arts. The evening features student performances, a silent auction of art work from each student in the school, and a live auction of classroom group art pieces. Parents are involved in every aspect of the evening and attend to many of the details of this community event. The Celebration has become the year's biggest fund raiser and is a testament to parent support.
