Insurance Request for Proposal Update

During the spring of 2019, the District Insurance Committee, in conjunction with our plan consultants at PayneWest, bid out our Third Party Administrative (TPA) services for the District’s health insurance plan. 

Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) is our current TPA. While we didn’t have specific issues or concerns with BCBS, the contract had not been bid out in quite some time. As a result, we felt it was in our employees’ best interest to check the market.

Six vendors submitted bids and the top three candidates--BCBS, Allegiance, and First Choice--were chosen for interviews and follow-up. In the end, the Committee determined BCBS offered the most robust network, best value, and most progressive cost-containment strategies, and recommended continuing our relationship with them. We are pleased that this process, in part, led to a 0% increase in premiums for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

The Insurance Committee’s goal is to ensure employees have access to high quality healthcare at an affordable price.  Employees and their families were always at the forefront of this conversation.
