2018 Election

Dear Interested Community Members,

The 2018 school election season has arrived.  We have created this web site as a way to explain the issues that you will see on the May 8 ballot.

The issues on this year's ballot are: trustee elections, requests for Elementary and High School operating levies, and a request to purchase land for future elementary schools.  We have separated the issues into links that are located on the left hand side of this page.

In addition to the operation levies, which are traditionally always part of our spring ballot, we are asking for permission to purchase land for future K-5 schools.  With increases in enrollment, we anticipate needing a new elementary school as early as 2020.  Please note that we are not requesting any additional monies to purchase these new properties, so there will be no impact to your tax bill due to this purchase.  We have adequate funds to purchase due to the sale of some of our other properties.  We are simply asking permission to use this money to purchase the properties pursuant to Montana law.

On behalf of the students and staff of Bozeman Public Schools and our Board of Trustees, we hope you will study the issues and cast your ballot on May 8.

This year's ballots will be mailed on April 23.  They can be returned by mail or in person to the County Election Office.  Please allow enough time for delivery prior to the May 8, 2018 deadline.

If you should have questions on the ballot issues, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Rob Watson
Superintendent
